Unfortunately, timeless and not too cool. Deep down, not even the rent is happenin', but on the surface this little alleycat film captures the day-to-day desperation of the ghetto world, mainlining its images with transfusions of eclectic jazz background. We have here a mood piece focusing on Clayton's efforts to rise to authority in his Harlem street gang after hearing a Black Muslim evangelist spouting black supremacy and hatred against whites. An effective look at the mind-set of bored youths who see violence as a way out of poverty, and an indictment of the failings of federal law. leave a comment
