Oprah Winfrey will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, while James Earl Jones and makeup artist Dick Smith will receive Honorary Oscars at this year's Governors Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday.
All three will receive their statuettes Nov. 12 at the third annual Governors Awards.

One Life to Live has cast Brandon Victor Dixon as Daryl, Dorian Lord's (Robin Strasser) new assistant at Craze magazine. The actor, who first airs March 13, will be doing double duty as Harpo in Broadway's The Color Purple. Incidentally, Daytime Emmy nominee Renee Goldsberry (Evangeline) was part of that same production's original cast, in which she played Nettie.

Oprah Winfrey has agreed to appear on David Letterman's late-night talker for the first time since he switched networks to CBS in 1993. Although the origin of the celebs' "feud" is unclear, Winfrey once told Time that she felt "completely uncomfortable" as the target of Letterman's barbs; not helping matters was the talk king's infamously awkward "Uma, Oprah" shtick at the 1995 Oscars. Oprah, out to tout her Broadway production of The Color Purple, will sit with Dave on Dec. 1. Oh, this can't be good: The other guest for that night is Deepak Chopra.
