Based on the Irving Wallace fictionalized study of American housewives' sexual behavior, this episodic and star-studded piece is no more than an evening with the latest issue of "Cosmopolitan." In the supposed sampling of a cross-section of Los Angeles women, Cukor focuses on Bloom, an
alcoholic nymphomaniac; Johns, an unsatisfied intellectual; Winters, an adulteress; and Fonda, a frigid female. All four are "interviewed" by the very-manly Zimbalist--whose character, like Cukor, seems to revel in the portrayal of the woman as helpless and sexually abnormal. Sleazy, smug, and
simple-minded.
