Loose remake of the 1956
film noir THE BURGLAR, this time set in Europe and starring Belmondo as the leader of a gang that steals a valuable collection of emeralds. The gang is given chase by corrupt cop Sharif who wants not to arrest the crooks but to nab the loot for himself. Cannon acts
as an American nightclub owner who is forced to play stool pigeon for the crooked copper. After a harrowing chase scene involving the two, Belmondo manages to trap Sharif in a grain elevator and drown him. Action scenes are well done, and the production values are generally high, but the film is
too long for its own good. Nice musical score by Morricone.
