After her wealthy father's business collapses, Claudette Colbert applies for a writing job on Fred MacMurray's Chicago-based magazine. Writer Robert Young, who is attracted to the socialite, informs editor MacMurray of the girl's recent financial problems, and MacMurray reluctantly hires
