Silly sci-fi film concerning a strange drill-shaped ship that burrows its way out of the earth and into a small town. Out of the ship swarm hairy parasites who attach themselves to the necks of the townsfolk and control them. Heroic scientist Nelson (who also served as the producer of the movie) spends most of his screen time arguing with the military about how to stop the invasion. After dozens of attempts to dispose of the creatures and their ship, Nelson comes up with the bright idea of throwing a live electric cable across the digger, which explodes, killing all the little nasties. Nelson probably got the idea from watching THE SPIDER, which AIP released at the same time (In that film the hero dealt with its monster by throwing a live electric cable on its web and frying it.) This is pretty typical stuff as "brain" movies go. Look hard and fast for "Star Trek's" Nimoy as the Protector of the alien craft. leave a comment
