THE BLACK PANTHER is the true story of Donald Nielson, the British kidnaper and killer. His nefarious career lasted three brief years from 1972, when he began robbing post offices, until his arrest for the murder of a teenage heiress in 1975. As the title character, Sumpter does good work in allowing us a peek into the inner recesses of a madman's mind. The film was made in 1977, when the memory of the Panther was still fresh in the memory of the British public, thus lots of what is seen may seem unintelligible to someone looking at it years later.
