A disappointing crime comedy about a nutty group of Americans--Wagner, Welch, Cambridge, Kaye, and Mule--who try to kidnap mobster De Sica while he attends the funeral in Naples of an old mob associate. The kidnapers are shocked to learn that not only can't the old hood raise the $50,000 ransom they demand, but that he is flat broke and being supported by his mistress. De Sica proposes that he include the kidnapers on a big heist he's been planning, the theft of $5 million worth of platinum ingots from the train carrying them. The inexperienced crooks agree, and the robbery turns into a comedy of errors that finally ends with the loot falling out of the B-25 bomber the gang uses to make its getaway to Morocco. A good cast (including a cameo by Robinson, who blueprints the heist) can't rescue this spotty effort. leave a comment
