Colorful Cajun noir, spicy, romantic, efficient. Hot Noo Ahluns police detective (Dennis Quaid) clashes with assistant district attorney (Ellen Barkin) over cop corruption. The best scenes are the romantic ones; director Jim McBride effectively captures the Big Easy, a city that is almost a character in itself, but the ending is contrived. That's the late and beloved New York Ridiculous Theatre impressario Charles Ludlam, out of his corset, as Lamar.
