Made in 1980 under the title EASTER SUNDAY, this inept film had a name change when its creators decided not to risk incurring churchgoers' wrath for profaning a liturgical holiday. The biggest mystery about this mystery-horror film is how the producer ever managed to persuade two Oscar winners (Dorothy Malone for WRITTEN ON THE WIND and Jose Ferrer for his memorable CYRANO DE BERGERAC) to appear in such cinematic Valium. The plot, such as it is, goes something like this: people in a small Idaho town are disappearing and nobody knows how or where. Mortimer (Rexx Coltrane) wants to investigate, but the mayor (Ferrer) stands in his way because this is a big potato town. Why jeopardize their main source of revenue for the sake of a few vanishing citizens? (Does this sort of sound like the plot of JAWS?) Someone suggests the trouble might have to do with the nuclear dump outside of town, and the story finally gets around to being The Creature from the Nuclear Dump. leave a comment
