This second-rate western was made for people who have never seen a first-rate western. Davis, a criminal racing away from a fleeing posse takes the badge of dying lawman Fowley. The badge has some sort of mystical effect on him, and he takes on Van Cleef and Heidt, who are the kingpins of a town. They run the cattle in and out of this burg and are in the midst of trying to pawn off some sick steers on unsuspecting buyers. Davis assumes the identity of the dead lawman and battles the bad guys. This isn't a bad story, but it is terribly handled by the production team. It gets one star for the appearances of Davis (who went on to international fame on TV's "Dallas"), Van Cleef (who became a major star in spaghetti westerns), and Douglas Fowley (who was brilliant as the mad director in SINGIN' IN THE RAIN). Song: "Man on the Run" (Hal Levy, Albert C. Gannaway, performed by Harve Presnell). leave a comment
