Departing from the familiar virtuous-peasants-vs.-evil-Cossacks format that was typical of Russian cinema, this film features the decadent, prerevolutionary Russian upper class in its full glory. The story concerns a beautiful young debutante who is forced to marry an old government
official to insure her family's financial security. Eventually she dumps the old creep for a young lover. Soon after, her brother and father are evicted from their home (presumably by the bitter old government official) and wander the snow-covered streets begging the girl to go back to her
husband.
