This is a Cinderella-like adventure in which a young woman (Deanna Durbin) tries to get a group of orphan children out of South China and to safety in America. She poses as the wife of a steamship magnate lost at sea and manages to establish the kids in the wealthy man's huge mansion, but
confesses her fraud to the magnate's grandson, who protects her and the children. The pleasant outing is highlighted by two songs sung by Durbin in Chinese. The film earned an Oscar nomination for its score.
