The All-American

When All-American football player Gary King (Richard Arlen) hangs up his cleats and his schoolbooks after his last game, foregoing a degree to get rich quick selling bonds, he loses his money and stature in short order thanks to cheap women and gambling. Before his brother (John Darrow), who also becomes a college star, falls victim to the same fate, Gary returns to the playing field--in a game that features current All-Americans and past stars--and brings his brother's ego back to earth. This relatively well-told gridiron yarn is enlivened by the comedic presence of Andy Devine and boasts the presence of some of the 1930s top coaches, as well as a number of authentic college football players. leave a comment
