This poor remake of an oft-filmed classic has Barray prancing about Paris stealing the hearts of lofty Giradon and sultry Canale while attempting to win back through cunning and swordplay his birthright from Mendoza, who plays a convincing villain. The colorful Sabatini story was first
made as a silent with Ramon Novarro and Lewis Stone, and then as a lavish talkie production, SCARAMOUCHE, in 1952 with Stewart Granger and Mel Ferrer, the latter remaining the best of the lot to date.
