Menjou and Oakie play a pair of advertising men who produce a radio contest offering $25,000 for the perfect "Average Man." Plainville, Missouri, grocery clerk Haley wins the prize and the dubious honor of having his taste in clothes, food, cars, etc., held as representative of the
country. Menjou and Oakie exploit this for all it's worth and merchandise Haley as much as they can. Trouble arises when Haley falls in love with small-town girl Whelan, who sees that her beau is being taken advantage of and takes action to put a stop to the advertising men's ever-increasing
demands.
