Dennis stars as a graduate student who is seduced by TV announcer McKellen and becomes pregnant. Despite the advice of her friends, Dennis decides to have the baby, although she keeps her pregnancy a secret from McKellen and her parents. Eventually she gives birth to a daughter, but the baby has a heart condition and must have a serious operation. The surgery is successful, and Dennis goes on to earn her doctorate while bringing up the child. One day, more than a year after her daughter's birth, Dennis bumps into McKellen again and invites him to her home. He accepts, but when he sees that she has a child, he makes a feeble excuse and leaves quickly, never learning that he is the father. Deciding that she is better off alone, Dennis lets him go. This well-written, understated drama paints vivid portraits of its characters and is enhanced by fine performances from Dennis and McKellen. leave a comment
