High-tech med center Dodson Clinic is the setting for this "Coma"-styled suspense film in which patients are turning into corpses at an alarming rate. The incompetence of hard-drinking Dr. Frank Holt (Joe Spano) seems initially to be the root of the problem, while computer whiz Anna Lang (Diane Venora), Holt's former flame, combs the hospital's computer system for a virus. Dr. Dodson (David McCallum), the head of the clinic, has ordered an investigation, but patients are still winding up on morgue slabs, including Mary O'Connor (Ellen Barkin), who stumbles across some evidence during an autopsy. There's an emphasis on the danger of high-tech systems, but the script and pacing don't develop enough tension to make this movie worthwhile. The result is an unnecessarily gory outing with an emphasis on bodily fluids. Filmed in 1982 and known under a variety of titles--TRAUMA; CRITICAL LIST; DEATH LIST; and DEATHBED--the movie does boast some decent performances. leave a comment
