The makers of this JAWS rip-off were lucky enough to get Huston, Winters, and Fonda to sign on for this picture; otherwise it would be completely forgotten today. As it is, it's just a footnote in the actors' respective filmographies. Outside of Fonda's minor role as an executive and Huston's equally small part as a newspaper reporter married to Winters, there isn't much to the ultraboring TENTACLES. Hopkins does the best he can as a marine biologist who trains a pair of whales to attack the killer octopus that's been strangling people. Director Assonitis also produced PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING (under his pseudonym, Oliver Hellman) and was obviously trying to milk the JAWS craze for all it was worth. Killer flying piranhas, a killer octopus, what else--a killer carp or killer seahorses, maybe? leave a comment
