Set during the mid 1800s, TENCHU tells the story of a group of people who attempt to restore their emperor to the throne. Nakadai, however, is intent on securing the position for himself, hiring a warrior to reduce his competition. After Nakadai's rise to power, the warrior is placed in a
prison where he eventually commits hara-kiri. Yukio Mishima, one of Japan's greatest writers, appears in a supporting role, just one year before he himself was to commit hara-kiri during a political overthrow.
