A disappointing modernistic fantasy-drama, TEMPEST uses Shakespeare's comedy as a jumping-off point and then goes off into never-never land. Phillip (John Cassavetes), an architect married to Antonia (Gena Rowlands), an actress, takes their daughter, Miranda (Molly Ringwald in her debut),
to Greece where he meets a singer, Aretha (Susan Sarandon). The three move to a bleak Greek island where they encounter a hermit, Kalibanos (Raul Julia). All the people in Phillip's life--Antonia, her producer (Paul Mazursky), casino owner Alfonso (Vittorio Gassman), his son (Sam Robards), as well
as a few others--land on the island when their boat is shipwrecked.
