A carbon-copy sequel of the 1985 movie featuring Michael J. Fox, TEEN WOLF TOO stars another TV heartthrob, 18-year-old Jason Bateman ("Valerie" and brother of "Family Ties" star Justine), who plays the cousin of Fox's original character. Todd Howard (Bateman), who, as far as he knows, isn't a victim of the family curse, is off to Hamilton University on a boxing scholarship. The catch is that Todd isn't a boxer--his coach (Paul Sand) helped Todd get a free ride because he knows of cousin Scott's lupine-fostered athletic prowess and hopes that Todd is similarly gifted. It's hard to imagine a more calculated sequel than TEEN WOLF TOO. The storyline is almost identical to its precursor, except that the high school environment has been replaced by a college one (preposterously unlike any real institution of higher education) and boxing has replaced basketball as the featured sport. Although Bateman has an endearing presence, he doesn't infuse his role with the naive charm Fox brought to the original. TEEN WOLF had an innocence about it that kept its message from being simplistic, and Fox's struggles with his changing body and personality became a metaphor for the confusion of adolescence. Unfortunately, this movie is only predictable and unfunny, with some special makeup effects that are hardly spectacular. leave a comment
