The second of two burlesque features made by pin-up mogul Irving Klaw, this hodge-podge of titillating dance acts, excruciatingly bad comedy (featuring Joe E. Ross, later of TV's Sergeant Bilko and Car 54, Where Are You? and the forgotten Dave Starr) and vaudeville numbers is a window onto the long-lost world of burley-Q. The film's stars are stripper Tempest Storm (famed for her 40" bust and flaming red hair) and raven-haired Bettie Page, at the height of her pin-up fame. Of the vintage burlesque pictures, this is probably the most rewarding for Page fans: Not only does she have two dance numbers, but she comes in between each number, dressed in a revealing costume and carrying a placard bearing the next performer's name. The exotic dancers include busty blondes Honey Baer, Twinnie Wallen and Trudy Wayne (the "Body Beautiful of Burlesque"), and red-headed Chris La Chris. In a sequence modern viewers may find challenges their image of the mid-'50s, Vicki Lynn, a rather severe-looking woman who bears a distinct resemblance to Eve Arden, does a prim strip and then whips off her bra and wig to reveal that "she" is actually a young man. Lynn also appears in a comedy skit with Ross and Starr, and shows some flair for the deadpan wisecrack. A dance team called Peppe & Roccio do a lively, straightforward Spanish number; the same footage also appears in Klaw's VARIETEASE (1954). Storm does several numbers, including one in which she awakens, folds up her convertible bed (sheer glamour, that) and gets dressed to go out for a night on the town. She's assisted by her maid, Page, who's dressed in a saucy little costume and sky-high heels. Page effortlessly steals this number right out from under the headliner. Like STRIPORAMA (1952) and VARIETEASE, this cobbled-together film features no nudity and very little that would strike a modern-day viewer as risque. leave a comment --Maitland McDonagh
