Conklin is a hard-working cab driver trying to support a wife and 10 children with a worn-out old vehicle. He's trying to raise $100 for a down payment on a new cab so he can ease his woes. One day he picks up Miley and Byer, a pair of crooks who plan to use him as a getaway driver after they blow up a safe. Trevor, a cop, surprises the two, who use Conklin's cab to escape. Trevor chases them in another cab but the crooks escape on foot. However, they've left behind a pearl necklace, hidden in the taxi's upholstery. Conklin's daughter, Sleeper, meets Miley and learns the secret of the necklace. She recovers it, and with the $5,000 reward her father can buy a new taxi. This mildly amusing comedy is largely silent with a few talking sequences. Conklin, of course, was better known as a second banana for numerous silent comedies, particularly his work with Charlie Chaplin. Serving as editor for the film was Pandro S. Berman, who in later years would become a well-known producer. leave a comment
