Granted, this may seem like a horrible idea for a film, but aren't you really dying to know what Weissmuller looks like in a suit? When Sheffield gets snatched by a show business menace and dragged to the Big Apple, Tarzan, Jane, and Cheta follow along, hoping to rescue him. Before long, however, Weissmuller is hauled into court for not having officially married O'Sullivan and for not having officially adopted Sheffield. He responds to the judge's civil tactics by picking him up and tossing him into the jury box (Tarzan 1, New York Judicial Branch 0). He also climbs on skyscrapers and jumps from the Brooklyn Bridge into the Hudson. Elmo Lincoln, the screen's first Tarzan, makes a cameo appearance. O'Sullivan bid adieu to Jane with this performance and, devoting herself to family life, didn't return to the screen for six more years. Sources differ on the credit for the role of Portmaster: some listing Matthew Boulton, others citing Miles Mander. leave a comment
