The British have always had a knack for farce, with good frenzied action that can give otherwise minor material a few deserved laughs. This pre-WW II example has Purdell (who also was the film's cowriter) playing a soldier who's just invented a tank supercharger. He's eager to try out the new device, doing so at the expense of military hardware. Soon the Germans learn of the device and spies are dispatched to fetch it for their own uses. Because of Purdell's combined bumbling with fellow soldier Hulbert, the plans are almost lost to the enemy, but all turns out well. The energy within the film gives the material added zest, making for an enjoyable time. leave a comment
