An attractive widow who works for the British Foreign Office and who, while in the Caribbean, falls in love with Feodor Sverlov, a Russian military agent. Neither knows that their innocent affair has stirred up accusations in Farrow's headquarters in London, and at the Russian Embassy in Paris where Feodor is stationed. The heads of both intelligence operations are convinced their meeting was pre-arranged. As the relationship deepens, the two visit the island's museum, where Judith learns the romantic island tradition of pledging love with a Tamarind Seed. But when their vacation ends, they must each return to their homes and their jobs, and defend their innocent relationship.
