This film gave the studio execs a chance to look at some rising young stars by collecting them in a single film. It's supposed to be a look behind the scenes at how Hollywood works. All the typical characters are there: the funny young comedian, the uppity prima donna, and the sweet-natured singer. Plot has Woods searching for Madden after he has been fired as a talent scout for a local studio. He finds Madden and sees her as his ticket back to the big time. He cons his old employers into giving her a screen test, which she fails miserably, but he gets her on the payroll anyway. Naturally, she goes on to fame and fortune and falls for her leading man. Troubles ensue, however, so Woods must come to the rescue in order to save his true love--and provide the obligatory happy ending. Songs include: "In the Silent Picture Days," "I Am the Singer, You Are My Song," "Born to Love," and "I Was Wrong" (M.K. Jerome, Jack Scholl). leave a comment
