Baker hosted a popular radio program, and this film tries to cash in on his popularity. Ryan is a young husband who needs $1,000 to pay his pregnant wife's doctor. He takes his wife and buddy to a popular game show broadcast and becomes a participant. Good-hearted Baker realizes that Ryan needs more than just the $64 in prize money, so he adds some zeroes. Ryan makes his bucks in the "Scenes from Famous Movies" category, which lets the makers of the film slip in 20th Century-Fox movie clips featuring Shirley Temple, Al Jolson, Betty Grable, The Ink Spots, Sonja Henie, and others. The gimmick also enabled Fox to promote the film by noting that it featured "27 surprise stars." leave a comment
