Sex is what separates this western from the typical oater, making for a neat movie. Young plays the son of landowners killed by Peter Duryea and his parents, who intend to expand their already-extensive property lines. In revenge, Young kills the murderous family, but before dying, Duryea's father hires three gunmen to track down Young. Young manages to kill two of them before running away to Indian country, where he meets an aging miner (Foran), his Mexican wife (Cardenas), and their daughter (Hale). Young is tracked to this hideaway by the lone surviving gunman (Dan Duryea), who is immediately taken prisoner by Foran. When Cardenas makes a play for Young and is rejected, she frees Duryea and makes off with him, taking her husband's gold with her. On the trek she is killed by Indians. Foran, Young, and Hale help a nearby fort stave off an Indian attack, and there they stumble upon Duryea--who manages to kill Foran before being killed himself. Young shoots Duryea after the weight of the gold causes Duryea's horse to collapse. Young and Hale are left to begin a new life together. leave a comment
