TAFFIN is set in a small Irish town where the title character (played by Pierce Brosnan) is an ex-seminarian, debt collector, and martial arts expert. At the urging of his brother (Patrick Bergan), Taffin gets involved with the struggle to save a nearby athletic field that is threatened by
road construction. He uncovers a complex plot involving murder, extortion, politicians, and a greedy chemical company. Brosnan is sadly miscast as the hero of this turgid melodrama, and the filmmakers seem uncertain of whether this is an action movie or a political tome, resulting in a film that
never finds a comfortable mood or pace.
