After such regrettable, forgettable junk as Shallow Hal and View from the Top, Gwyneth Paltrow made an impressive return to form with a subtly powerful portrayal of the doomed poet Sylvia Plath. It's too bad no one seemed to notice: This 2003 biopic is a first-rate showcase for Paltrow. Skipping Plath's early years entirely, the film focuses exclusively on Plath's seven-year marriage to English poet Ted Hughes (Daniel Craig), who's often been accused of aiding and abetting Plath's eventual self-destruction.
