Edmund Gwenn is a compulsive gambler whose wife has just passed away. His daughter, Katharine Hepburn, has stolen some expensive lace, so he decides to smuggle it out of France. She wants to leave with him, but the cops are looking for her, and all the borders are being watched, so she decides to masquerade as a boy.
