After serving time for robbery, Martin (Hugo Speer) bears no malice toward his equally guilty brother Liam (Paul Usher), even though Liam got off scot-free. Instead, all Martin aims to do is form a band. A swing band, that is. Despite the fact that Martin's ex-fiancee Joan (Lisa Stansfield) married Andy (Danny McCall ), Martin's arresting officer, during his incarceration, he still persuades her to be his vocalist. Hugo's band comprises a drummer from a punk group, a double bass player who'd rather be scoring on the football field, and Protestant loyalists who detest Martin's Catholic mother.
