Sweet Surrender

1935, Movie, NR, 80 mins

starstarstarstar
A haphazard script, which includes antiwar propaganda, gangsters, and mistaken identity, features dancer Tamara and her crooning boy friend, Parker, on a Europe-bound luxury liner. On board they encounter a woman posing as the dancer, also played by Tamara. The imposter has some nasty plans that require her to snoop around places she shouldn't. The film is a big thud, its only highlights coming from the glimpses inside Jack Dempsey's famous restaurant. Songs include: "Love Makes the World Go Round," "Take This Ring," "I'm So Happy I Could Cry," "The Day You Were Born," and "Twenty-four Hours a Day" (Edward Heyman, Dana Suesse, James Hanley, Arthur Swanstrom). leave a comment
