In the 1880s, Brooklynite Madeleine Marlowe (Betty Grable) returns to the US from England, where she gained great notices on the musical-comedy stage as well as the interest of a British nobleman (Reginald Gardiner). Back home, Madeleine's onetime boy friend, Sam Mackeever (Robert Young), is a reporter for the scandal sheet Police Gazette.
