Sweet Adeline

This dull programmer has one big thing in its favor, a wonderful score by Kern and Hammerstein. Otherwise the film is a minor talkie featuring Dunne as a girl of the gay '90s who enchants the men who come to her father's Hoboken Biergarten. Woods plays the songwriter with whom she finally finds true love. LeRoy's direction is by the book and without much life. Some of the songs include: "Here Am I," "Don't Ever Leave Me," "Why Was I Born?," and "'Twas Not So Long Ago" (by Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II), and "We Were So Very Young," "Out of the Blue," and "Lonely Feet."
