After the Chicago fire Barrymore builds a department store that becomes a major business. He wants his sons to take over but each proves to be spoiled by wealth and his daughter is too much of a socialite to care. Finally he turns his empire over to Ratoff, the man who helped him start the store. Despite Barrymore's usual good standards, this is a slow and stuffy film without much merit.
