This campus comedy takes a fairly unusual twist for the genre and ends up getting quickly muddled. A group of well-scrubbed college kids are working hard to put on a musical revue when suddenly the gang starts dropping like flies. They know the killer is among the group, but just who is it? The usual hijinks go on, with Bracken eventually exposing the murderer before the surprised audience. The mix between comedy and murder is more than a little uneasy resulting in a lower quality programmer. The film is best remembered for the song "I Don't Want to Walk Without You" by Styne and Loesser. It became a big hit in wartime America and propelled the film careers of its composers. Songs include: "I Don't Want to Walk Without You" (Frank Loesser, Jule Styne, sung by Johnnie Johnston, reprised by Betty Rhodes), "I Said No" (Loesser, Styne, sung by Rhodes), "What Gives Out Now" (Loesser, Styne, sung by Eddie Bracken, June Preisser), and "Sweater Girl" (Loesser, Styne, sung by Bracken). leave a comment
