Filled with tremendous stunts and well-shot racing sequences, director Steve Boyum's loud, down-and-dirty ride through the world of Supercross motorcycle racing comes to a screeching halt for its many pit stops for Hollywood clichés. Question: I'm looking through the upcoming movies online and I see that a new movie called Supercross: The Movie is rated PG-12. When did it come out, and is the "PG-12" just reading a frequently printed typo or something else, like that they couldn't decide between PG and PG-13?

Answer: Typo. Distribution companies that are signatories to the MPAA (which includes all the major studios) can't make up ratings without getting themselves in big trouble. Made-up ratings like "XXXX: Xtra SeXXXXy" are only possible because when the MPAA introduced its rating system in 1969, they neglected to copyright the X, an omission dirty moviemakers seized upon with glee. The MPAA takes its own sweet time creating new ratings; the last one was the NC-17, which debuted in 1990.
