A touching little film that focuses on the attempts of a poor family living in Florida on a houseboat to invite a soldier to their meager floating home and supply him with a hearty meal. This is the family's sole purpose, and they scrimp and save until they finally have a chance to fulfill their desire when Hodiak, adorned in soldier's garb, comes walking along the beach. During the dinner, a romance develops between the soldier and the eldest girl Baxter, making the wait worthwhile for the poor family. Winninger is in his usual grouchy form as the grandfather of the four orphans for whom he must try to provide. Look for the brief appearance of Conklin, the archvillain of hundreds of comic capers of the Keystone Cops. leave a comment
