Perhaps the best American independent feature of 1983. Bernice and Lowell Wisdom (Dorothy Holland and Frank Whiteman) prepare to greet their relatives at the patriarchal home at a Fourth of July reunion. Lowell's father's health is failing, and he must come to grips with the fact that he
will soon be the family patriarch. Though the script tends to be overly talky, an effort has been made to combine the Texas background with the unfolding dramatic situation with effective results.
