Neville is cast as Sherlock Holmes in this thriller about a manhunt for Jack the Ripper in London's misty East End. Film takes the stance that Jack was well educated and did his slashing with medical finesse. A STUDY IN TERROR was the second Sherlock Holmes film to be made in color. It
also was unique in that it put the fictional detective on a real crime that occurred in the 1880s, Holmes' era; made him a younger character accustomed to action; and dealt with a story line that was more sexually explicit than previous Holmes films. The film was released in the US as FOG.
