1970, Movie, R, 85 mins

This exploitation film with a conscience focuses on the lives of four nursing school students who go eventually their separate ways. Giftos falls for a terminally ill patient. Carlson accidentally gives a patient an overdose of drugs, but doctor Casey shields her, and the two fall in love. However, their romance ends when Carlson discovers Casey performed an abortion on her friend Leigh, who was carrying the child of a drug addict. Farrell's story is somewhat implausible: she gets mixed up with a revolutionary and takes off with him when he and his accomplice kill a policeman. With a budget of $120,000, STUDENT NURSES was the cheapest movie made by Roger Corman's New World Pictures to date when it was released in 1970. The film reputedly inspired a bet between Corman and New World publicity head Jon Davison, who claimed he could make an even cheaper film. The result was HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD. leave a comment
