As if the plethora of mindless slasher films weren't enough, they were followed by a flood of mindless slasher film parodies, including STUDENT BODIES. As with other films of this genre, horny teenagers are killed before their moment of glory. In a cut-away, an official-looking man appears and tells the audience that since the film contains no sex or violence, the only thing to do to get an all-important "R" rating is swear, which he does. The film attempts to mock both slasher movies and the mentality that produces them, but its humor is so sophomoric that it's a little like the pot calling the kettle stupid. STUDENT BODIES was written and directed by Mickey Rose, who cowrote such Woody Allen classics as BANANAS; WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY?; and TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, and produced by none other than director Michael Ritchie (DOWNHILL RACER; FLETCH; THE GOLDEN CHILD), who decided to hide behind that time-honored Hollywood pseudonym, Allen Smithee. leave a comment
