Burt Reynolds hits new lows as he mugs his way through this film as Stroker Ace, a race-car driver who's under the control of chicken-franchise owner Clyde Torkle (Ned Beatty). His love interest is Pembrook Feeney (Loni Anderson, the future Mrs. Reynolds), a squeaky-clean virgin. The
script is filled with "good ol' boy" humor and car crackups. Most of the fun comes from trying to spot real-life racing luminaries, including drivers Dale Earnhardt, Benny Parsons, Kyle Petty, Cale Yarborough and television announcers Chris Economaki, David Hobbs, and Ken Squier.
