Though as futilely overwrought as most erotic thrillers, this skin-flick manages to keep its characters motivated and its cast undressed in interesting ways. This battle-of-the-oversexed never lacks tension, only logic and the good sense to know when a climax is anti-climactic. Pushy professional dirt-digger Mark Demetrius (Vincent Spano) would rather investigate political intrigue than write puff pieces about women's sexual fantasies. Stuck with an assignment about phone sex operators, Mark becomes infatuated with the brash Nicole (Cheryl Pollak), who enthralls Mark with a series of LAST TANGO IN PARIS-style encounters. Breaking his ethical code, Mark traces Nicole's whereabouts and savors her favors — to his everlasting regret. Could Nicole's availability have anything to do with a recent piece in which Mark discredits psychiatrist Dr. Singer (David Ackroyd)? Before you know it, Nicole is threatening to expose Mark's extra-curricular activities to his fiancee, Sara (Traci Lind). Then Sara is murdered, and all the evidence points to Mark. As he delves into the mystery of Nicole's accomplices are, Mark is constantly outwitted by the ruthless femme fatale. Once again, a fool jeopardizes his life, limbs, relationship and career, for a romp in the hay, and the film's moral stance seems to be, the wilder a woman is in bed, the more disturbed she's bound to be. What separates this heavy-breather from other FATAL ATTRACTION clones is the vigor with which the leading players address their bedroom maneuvers, and what makes Pollak's work so scary is that even as you watch her bait the hook, you can see why Mark bites. Her hidden motive isn't half as compelling as the relish with which she attacks her victims. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
