In this below-standard action film, a CIA agent who was believed dead, returns to his New Jersey hometown to find his wife and daughter and becomes embroiled in a political conspiracy. Sent to Leningrad to escort a defecting Soviet scientist to the US, Maj. Curt Flynn (Michael Ontkean) was thought to have been killed when the CIA, doubting the scientist's loyalty, planted a bomb on the jet carrying Flynn and the Soviet. Twelve years later, Flynn has escaped both his Soviet captors and the CIA, who claim he has become a Soviet agent. Back in New Jersey, Flynn learns that his wife (Joanna Kerns) has married one of the adversaries of Edith Chandler (Jeanette Nolan), the matriarch of the corrupt family that controls the town. With the help of a local hooker (Sondra Currie), Flynn acts as a guardian angel for his family, pursued by both Chandler's goons and the CIA. STREET JUSTICE's clumsy script follows too many tangents, and is loaded with lackluster dialog and stock characters. Even Ontkean, in the lead, substitutes a sullen stupified look for characterization. leave a comment
