A bleary-eyed melodrama sure to warm the hearts of those who love this sort of film. Allyson stars as the overbearing mother of a soldier who, in an act of cowardice, killed himself while overseas. Mom is dead set on getting him a posthumous medal of honor, however, and is willing to
bribe major Chandler to testify in his favor. Producer Ross Hunter rounded up the usual melodrama cast at Universal, and took another novel from Wilder (he had previously made WRITTEN ON THE WIND from a Wilder novel), but needed the likes of Douglas Sirk to direct this.
