Laughton stars in this weak horror film as a man who seeks revenge on his brother for marrying Laughton's childhood sweetheart. Laughton imprisons his brother, Cavanagh, and convinces Cavanagh's grown daughter that her father is dead. He plans to make the girl's life miserable (the mother, Laughton's love, died years ago in childbirth) by marrying her off to a hard-drinking swine, Stapley.
